ART, SUSTAINABILITY & SCIENCE MUSEUM
Discovering42 is based in Bodmin, Cornwall. We use art and traditional hands-on interactivity as a catalyst to bring to life physics, chemistry, engineering and environmental issues in an immersive way. The current exhibition is constantly evolving and is crafted with upcycled materials and objects —from the exhibits themselves to the walls, floors, and ceilings—showing what’s possible when creativity meets sustainability.
With no dedicated science museum in Devon or Cornwall, and few child-friendly art spaces, we set out to bridge the gap. We believe informal, playful learning is one of the best ways to spark curiosity in subjects people might not normally find interesting. Our society needs critical thinkers if we are going to solve our climate crisis and we feel it all starts with making science relevant and approachable, creating a space to experiment and inspiring us all to feel we can contribute.
THE VISION
We are working towards creating a larger pioneering, interactive and informal learning space that blurs the boundaries between art, science and sustainability. Alongside our unusual exhibitions, we would love to have room for a makerspace, plastics lab, artist workshops and mini scrapstore – inviting groups to be involved in workshops and co-create exhibits, working alongside local artists to develop practical skills.
This year-round hub will be a living, evolving space that bringing together people of all ages to collaborate, learn, and innovate together. Through raising science capital in Cornwall, we aim to inspire lasting positive impact on attitudes, skills, wellbeing and to contribute towards climate solutions and the growth of local STEM industries. Our vision is to model how creativity and science can unite to tackle global challenges.
