OVERVIEW
Discovering42 is Cornwall’s award-winning art, science, and sustainability museum. This a unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering nonprofit that is experimental and willing to do things differently. We are a small and agile team, this role will enable you to explore ways to best support our community and creatively develop initiatives to make science and sustainability more relevant and exciting.
THE ROLE
Discovering42 is on the look out for a practical, passionate and friendly Outreach Officer, you might be a scientist, engineer, maker, artist or teacher (or anything in between!). You will be working with us to develop and deliver the Mobile Marvels Exhibition and a series of exciting hands-on workshops both in Bodmin and for communities across Cornwall.
Initially, you will be working with the team and volunteers to design and build exhibits for the new exhibition plus developing a series of practical science and sustainability themed workshops. Once we are on the road, you will be overseeing the day to day running of the outreach program including managing bookings, setting up the exhibition and delivering workshops.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Booking and Coordination:
-Promoting the exhibition and workshops.
-Co-ordinating with councils, organisations and schools to schedule bookings.
-Logistics planning.
2. Exhibit Management and Maintenance:
-Ensure all exhibits are safe, maintained, and in good working order (training provided).
3. Exhibition Setup:
-Unload and set up the exhibition at each location, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
4. Health and Safety:
-Conduct risk assessments and ensure all safety measures are in place and adhered to.
-Oversee health and safety & safeguarding protocols
5. Workshop Design and Delivery:
-Develop and deliver engaging sustainability and science-themed workshops.
-Tailor workshops to different age groups and learning levels to maximise impact and engagement.
6. Community Engagement:
-Become a representative of Discovering42, fostering positive relationships with schools, students, and the broader community.
-Collect feedback from participants and schools to continuously improve the program.
7. Development:
-Continue to develop and innovate the outreach offer, creating new exhibits and workshops including after-school and homeschool clubs and holiday programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Essential:
A proactive and enthusiastic attitude, with a passion for community, sustainability and science education.
Experience in public speaking, education, outreach, or a related field.
Confident DIY/maker skills
Strong organisational and logistical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Beneficial:
Practical skills in electrical engineering, coding, carpentry, metalwork, fitting or fabrication.
Skilled at online promotion
Experience conducting risk assessments or overseeing health and safety protocols.
Clean driving license.
