MUSEUM AND CAFE MANAGER

Salary: £12.60/hour or rate dependent on experience

Discovering42 is an award-winning Science & Sustainability Museum with a creative streak. We are looking for a proactive and organised Museum and Café Manager to oversee the daily operations of our unique museum and its vibrant café space. This is a rare opportunity to combine cultural leadership with hospitality management, all in a setting that champions creativity, education, and sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the daily running of the museum and café.
- Manage front-of-house staff and volunteers with a positive and supportive approach.
- Develop and refine systems, procedures, and policies (e.g. H&S, food hygiene, safeguarding).
- Identify inefficiencies and implement solutions that streamline workflows and enhance team performance.
- Maintain high standards in customer service, food hygiene, and site safety.
- Support planning and delivery of events and exhibitions.
Requirements:
- Experience in community engagement, hospitality, museums or similar settings.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills.
- A creative and adaptable approach to problem-solving
- Confidence developing systems and ensuring compliance.
- A friendly, hands-on approach with a passion for creativity, sustainability, science and community engagement.
- Qualifications are nice but not necessary – passion, transferrable skills and experience go a long way!
FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

We’re looking for a motivated and strategic Fundraising & Development Manager to help grow and diversify the income streams that power our mission. You’ll play a key role in securing funding for exhibitions, community programmes, and new initiatives — from grant writing and reporting to building relationships with funders, sponsors, and supporters. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys making things happen behind the scenes and wants their work to directly support creativity, education, sustainability, and the development of a vital community resource.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the wider team to align fundraising with programming, outreach, and development goals.
- Research, write, and submit compelling grant applications and funding bids.
- Manage funding timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain relationships with funders, partners, and sponsors.
- Explore and implement additional income opportunities (e.g. donations, memberships, corporate giving).
- Keep fundraising systems and records up to date, including tracking outcomes and impact.
Requirements:
- Experience writing successful funding applications or fundraising proposals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and juggle multiple projects.
- A strategic mindset with a hands-on, flexible approach.
- Passion for creative community work, education, sustainability, or the arts.
